Lose weight with Habit Powered Weight Loss or Weight Loss Coaching
In 2009 I started my personal training career. I called my business Grand Rapids Personal Training and leased space right below the Bistro Bella Vita restaurant in downtown Grand Rapids, Michigan.
My beginnings were humble for sure. I only had one client when I signed my first lease. But my schedule grew quickly. Soon I was training people from 6am until 7pm on most days of the week. Those long hours formed the foundation for my philosophy on health and fitness.
There were a few things I learned really early on. First, 90% of my clients had weight loss as either their primary or secondary goal. Second, most people tend to think they’re going to exercise the pounds away.
Weight loss is simply a numbers game. Create a calorie deficit and you will lose weight. Unfortunately, exercise is not how you’re going to get this done efficiently. I am a firm believer in DAILY exercise but eating and being consistent play larger roles in weight loss than exercise.
My big paradigm shift came when I discovered that could tell a client the right things to do all day long. But it was actually doing them that was always the problem. Changing behavior was without question the biggest obstacle I needed to overcome with almost every single client.
It didn’t matter whether a client preferred to jog around downtown Grand Rapids or lift weights for daily exercise. It didn’t matter whether they were on a vegan diet or paleo diet. What mattered was their habits. Forming good habits was my number one tool for helping my personal training clients lose weight.
Over the years I have obsessively studied habits. Thankfully, there are scientific ways to create and manipulate habits. I began to teach these techniques to my clients. I was becoming more of a psychologist and life coach than personal trainer.
Today, I help people from Grand Rapids and all over the country lose weight. People can choose between the self-guided Habit Powered Weight Loss program or work with me one-on-one through Weight Loss Coaching. Both routes teach the science of habits and how it can be used to lose weight.
My programs can be used as stand alone programs but in my opinion I think they work best as supplements. So you can still do spin class, work with a trainer, eat paleo or vegan. My programs will fill in the critical gaps to ensure you achieve permanent weight loss.
